A.C. Gilbert had the idea to build an articulated Mallet locomotive, but the engineering department told him it would be too long to take the Flyer curves. Not willing to accept that as the final word, he said "show me," even though he wasn't from Missouri. So they did and as you can see from the photos below they were right and the model was never produced. Even using the smallest wheels, those from their 0-6-0 or 0-8-0 switchers, which were really too small, it still didn't work. They could get it to negotiate the curves, but the overhangs were too extreme. The tag below tells the story.
