This display as illustrated in the 1953 displays catalog appears to require 1 full sections of straight track in addition to that listed in the display contents.  While the catalog lists "1 pair" of switches the plan actually calls for 2 left handed switches.

A Newly Discovered 150 Display

Dennis Holler has recently become the owner of a relatively well preserved 150 display from 1953 which he will be restoring.  It isn't perfect, but considering it is almost 70 years old, it is in quite good shape.  Shown below is a photo of the display set up with its included accessories in its "as discovered" condition.

One interesting fact about this display is that even though Gilbert introduced the abutment sets for use in creating elevated track work in the year this display was built, the elevated track sections in this layout do not use those abutment pieces, but rather individual wooden risers.

Watch this space for more news on the restoration of this display.
